This training is focused primarily on the mindset and role of a Human Resources Partner in an organization looking to become Agile and those that coach Human Resources
This training is focused primarily on the mindset and role of a Human Resources Partner in an organization looking to become Agile and those that coach Human Resources Teams. Participants will take away tools and techniques for use with HR Teams and Leadership, that will help them to bridge the cultural divide that can come about in organizations in the process of restructuring both their culture and their physical structure to accommodate success.
Focus is spent on becoming a learning organization and all that means, developing a culture of experimentation, trust and shared ownership, while also spending time on what needs to change in order to have cultural structure align with organizational structure. Participants will learn modern ways of securing new talent, including participating in simulation exercises that will open their minds to greater possibilities and considerations.
The teaching approach is innovative and interactive: it is based on activities, games and discussions, following the lead of Training from the Back of the Room and Liberating Structures.
Key topics participants will learn
- how Agile Human Resources Teams differ from traditional HR Teams
- intro and practice of core interview skills
- designing organizational cultures to maximize impact
- how to facilitate, and participate in value stream mapping exercises to help restructure mindsets and practices
- what types of roles, teams, and skills are needed and how to keep bias at bay
Do you have to be an Agile Coach to attend?
No. Some experience or basic understanding of Agile is helpful, but we will discuss differences between the manifesto, principles, values, mindset as well as the HR manifesto.
Who should attend?
The course is suitable for everyone who is about to start working with Human Resources teams, or who champions Agile teams. HR Professionals, Agile Coaches, Organizational Leaders, Agile Transformation Leaders, and Change Agents are all welcome.
This course is accredited by the International Consortium for Agile (ICAgile) as fulfilling all Learning Objectives in the Operating with Agility for Human Resources track. After successful completion of this course, participants will receive the qualification ICAgile Agile Human Resources (ICP-AHR). This is a key step toward helping organizations to understand what Agile employees, leaders, and organizations need to be successful. This is an updated certification that improved greatly upon its predecessor.

Karen Bruns has been serving as an Enterprise Agility Coach & Trainer for the past four years; most recently her clients are in the public sector. Prior to that she was solely in the private sector. She has experienced success in transforming teams and organizations into well-oiled Agile engines that purr in both environments. She has successfully coached functional managers to better understand and embrace their complimentary role within Agile. Karen has worked closely with executive personnel, project managers, product owners, developers, systems analysts, testers and vendors. She has lived the reality of serving as a ScrumMaster, Product Owner, and team member, making her uniquely qualified to effectively coach these team roles. She does not believe in installing Agile, but understands it is a cultural change that must be first embraced by leadership. Karen Bruns has a natural passion for Agile and the power of transformation it holds. She is a practitioner of servant leadership, not servant beatership.Karen is certified as a Facilitator of Open Space Technologies and is a member of the Agile Open Northern California conference organizing team. She is a member of the Agile Games West organizing committee as well as the Emcee for the event. In addition to holding CSM, CSPO, CSP-SM/PO, and CAL1, she is a certified ICAgile Coach, ICAgile Team Facilitator, ICAgile Talent, and is a Trainer of Training from the Back of the Room.Karen's most recent endeavor is the creation of Emergent Agile Retreats; an organization devoted to providing focused Agile retreats for practitioners. The first retreat will be in August of 2020.
