Certified Scrum Professional-Product Owner - CSP-PO® FAQs

This is the actual CSP-PO Certification course. You do the CSP-PO course work and submit the assignments and attend the live sessions. When you are all done we will submit your certification. You will have to accept the CSP-PO License Agreement and then you are done!

The assignments included in the Certified Scrum Professional - Product Owner course will validate your learning so there are no additional official tests to pass to be certified.

Yes, you have to have a CSPO® on file to process the A-CSPO®. Once the Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner Certification is processed we can then move forward with CSP-PO Certification.

You have enough experience, but you also need to update your membership profile with Scrum Alliance including your work history AND – on your job entry there is a checkbox at the bottom that says PATH TO CSP – you need to check that box and enter your scrum experience there in order for the certifications to process.

It is important to have your valid email on file with Scrum Alliance. Please make sure you update your profile before applying for the graduation from the course.

People who work diligently generally finish the individual Certified Scrum Professional - Product Owner course in 4-6 weeks. It’s self-paced so it depends on how diligently you work. I have two mentoring sessions weekly and a minimum of 4 are required to complete the course work.

The learning experience goes deeper since there is no time constraint. This gives you time to practice what you learned with your team before trying to grasp another concept. This way helps you retain more of the learning you gain. Also, 8 hours live with a qualified mentor where you can bring the problems and challenges you are having in your real world and get help. Also, it includes up to 8 hours of live mentoring sessions with a qualified mentor where you can bring the problems and challenges you are having in your real world to get help.

At Tandem our training programs and educational offerings provide our students with a comprehensive continuous improvement platform which balances self-paced study and mentoring with the Certified Enterprise and Team coaches.

While we do not require pre- or post-course work, we encourage you to stay in touch and continue working with Tandem faculty and staff on your life-long learning journey.

Due to technical limitations, all courses listed on the SA website show as two-day course. However, this course is self paced and the live mentoring sessions are scheduled by you as best fits your schedule. So, you can start the coursework immediately and meet with your mentor as soon as you are ready.

During live mentoring sessions, the group builds the backlog of topics to discuss. Please come prepared with any questions, challenges, or situations you would like thought partnership and mentoring for.

We strive to accommodate all the students in our CSPPO course. We run our mentoring sessions twice a week whereas at least one is convenient for the European time zones and another for the North American and Asian time zones.

The learning objectives for the CSP-PO class fall into 5 broad categories as described below:

Product Owner as Product Champion

1.1. appraise how different organizational designs and structures might impact how a person is selected to be a Product Owner.

Advanced Stakeholder Discussion

1.2. assess a facilitated session with stakeholders and other product managers who are in conflict, providing two examples of how to improve facilitation.
1.3. compare at least two techniques for gathering, communicating, and leveraging information from internal and external stakeholders.

Launching Scrum Teams

1.4. explain at least three reasons why the start of a new Scrum Team should be handled differently from a traditional project kickoff or charter.
1.5. demonstrate the Product Owner’s responsibility to define expectations for quality when agile teams form.
1.6. plan the launch of a new Scrum Team.

Product Ownership with Multiple Teams

1.7. demonstrate at least two methods to support Product Backlog management across multiple agile teams.
1.8. contrast at least two patterns for scaling the Product Owner role.
1.9. organize and facilitate a collaborative session to perform prioritization at scale.

You can take our course at any time, fulfilling training requirements Scrum Alliance has for the CSP-PO® applicants.
In order to apply for the CSP-PO® certification you should hold an active Advanced Certified Product Owner (A-CSPO®) certification with Scrum Alliance. If your A-CSPO® certification expired, you can reach out to Scrum Alliance and reinstate it before applying for your CSP-PO® certification.
You should have at least 24 months of proven work experience as a Product Owner or in a role that holds Product Owner accountabilities. These 24 months of experience should be acquired over the course of the last 5 years of your work history. You should also successfully complete your Certified CSP-PO educational offering.

Scrum Alliance asks any CSP-PO® applicants to meet the following requirements:

  • Hold an A-CSPO® certification.
  • Successfully complete the training requirement of a CSP-PO educational offering.
  • Accept the CSP-PO® license agreement from Scrum Alliance.
  • Validate at least 24 months of work experience specific to the role of Scrum Master within the past five years. This experience can precede yours taking the training.
  • Have an updated membership profile with Scrum Alliance.

You should expect to receive your certification within two weeks of completion of your CSP-PO training, meeting all the requirements, and after Tandem Coaching submits the proof of the CSP-PO training completion to Scrum Alliance.

This time can be longer depending on the Scrum Alliance review process at the time of submission. Any review comments or follow ups may hold up your certification.
